The cases of the Eclipse P400 Air series are designed with beginners in mind while still catering for the experienced PC enthusiast crowd with an array of interesting features including, despite its sleek profile, optimised airflow. The front of the Eclipse P400 Air consists of a metal plate with a fine mesh grid which allows excellent airflow on one hand, while also allowing users to keep the interior of the case free of dust. When compared to the usual combination of mesh and dust filters, the advantage here lies in the fact that the fans situated behind the front panel are able to pull in air more easily. This durable mesh also happens to add a certain something to the overall look of the case - especially when the interior of the case is illuminated with RGB lighting.
The highlight of the case can be said to be its use of a tinted, tempered glass side window that affords users an impressively unobstructed view of their gaming hardware - while also helping the case as a whole to cut a rather premium figure in comparison to the competition. Additionally, the case offers two pre-installed 120 mm fans that are connected to an integrated controller, the speeds of which can be controlled in three stages via a switch on the I/O panel.
The PHANTEKS Eclipse P400 Air Midi-Tower offered here comes from PHANTEKS' Eclipse series of cases, and its clean lines and ascetic style in black tells you PHANTEKS is pulling no punches in the design department. The metal mesh grid at the front in combination with the large tinted tempered glass side window all combine to make for a truly premium aesthetic.
Users will find a convenient reset switch as well as a control for adjusting the fans' speeds located in the indentation between the roof and the upper air inlet in the front. The power switch is located towards the front of the case in the centre of the case's roof, both audio jacks and USB 3.0 ports are located on the side of the front panel facing to the right. A large, removable dust filter, which acts like a large mesh grille and rests on a large vent takes up the majority of the lid.
The interior of the Eclipse P400 Air continues on with the premium looks of its exterior with attractive black paint. The inside of the case is divided in two by means of a PSU shroud complete with integrated air vents on its top. The presence of this PSU shroud helps conceal both drive bays, which in turn allow for tool-free mounting of two 3.5" or 2.5" drives via the case's right side after removing the side cover which is attached with user-friendly thumb screws. Up to two SSDs can be installed to the rear of the motherboard with "Drop-N-Lock" SSD brackets, and PHANTEKS also factored in convenient cable management - reserving 25 mm of space here for said purpose. Velcro cable ties enable users to neatly route their cabling and the presence of rubberised pass-throughs help to keep said cables in top condition.
The PHANTEKS Eclipse P400 Air has got hard core gamers covered when it comes to hardware: graphics cards up to 420 mm in length are supported with radiator mounts for AiO and custom water cooling solutions. The rear of the case also supports the installation of a 120 mm fan or a similarly-sized radiator if you prefer, while the front supports three 120 mm fans or two 140 mm fans. Instead of fans, if you prefer, the case will also support 280- or 360 mm radiators in the front. If users wish to install a 360 mm radiator however, a panel in the PSU shroud as well as the HDD cage must be removed. In addition to the two pre-installed 120 mm fans on the front, up to two 120- or 140 mm fans can be mounted in the roof along.
Those wishing to add a larger traditional-style CPU cooler to their setup can opt for models up to 16 cm in height, while your gaming system is free to use power supplies up to 270 mm in length. With the help of the accessories (available separately), users can forfeit the additional space for the GPU or radiator in the front and opt instead for up to four additional 3,5-/2,5" drives. There's even the possibility of installing the graphics card in a vertical orientation.
